5. What kinds of transportation do you use? How much time
is spent in transport?
Bus, two hours round trip to Apia. Auseuga, Faaleo, Laufafa
and Alatupe go occasionally. Uiti goes to college in Apia
every weekday.
6. Do you actively practice your religion? How does it affect
your daily life and community?
We have prayers at home for 70 minutes in the morning, and
again in the evening. Once a week Faaleo fasts from midnight
to 12 pm the next day.
Family Economics
7. Does your family consider itself rich or poor, comfortable
or struggling?
We consider ourselves average--not rich or poor. We have
everything we need, but are still struggling for some more.
8. How many hours/week does each family member work?
Auseuga: 35 hours/week
Faaleo: 35 hours/week
Laufafa: 48 hours/week
Alatupe: 48 hours/week
9. Are you satisfied with your jobs? What do you
like/dislike about them?
Auseuga is a matai (chief), a chosen family leader. As a matai
he has the opportunity to have a say in district, village, church,
and family affairs.
Faaleo likes being a matai's wife, but sometimes runs short of
money because she must give donations, host guests, etc.
Laufafa likes her job, but does not like housework where she
has to serve everyone first and is always late eating.
10. How much money does each family member earn/month?
200 Tala/month($80 US)
